EDU555 CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

ASSESSMENT VS EVALUATION

This week, we are learn about Curriculum Evaluation which is the difference between assessment and evaluation.

assessment is a process of gathering data. Data provide a picture of a range of activities using different forms of assessment. It can be test, questionnaire, quiz, presentation, micro teaching, article review or group projects.

Meanwhile, evaluation is one's judgement to determine the overall value of an outcome based on the assessment data.  From the evaluation we design ways to improve the recognized weakness, gap or deficiencies.

Aim of  Curriculum evaluation is to examine the impact of implemented curriculum on student achievement so that the official curriculum can be revised if necessary and to review teaching and learning process in the classroom.

The important of evaluation are to determine the outcomes of the program, to help deciding whether to accept or reject a program, to improve the method of teaching and instructional technique, and help in future development of curriculum material.

Suddenly my friend ask about the difference between intended and implemented curriculum. intended curriculum is the written curriculum such as DSKP or national education blueprint. Meanwhile, implemented curriculum is what actual happens in the classroom. Why teacher cannot follow the intended curriculum? it can be due to implemented curriculum there are lack of facilities and equipment.
